Sustainable highlights

Sustainable sights and destinations in Stuttgart: from the StadtPalais with its special event themes and formats to the large "Grünes U" park, there's plenty to discover here!

StadtPalais Stuttgart

A sustainable highlight in the museum sector is the StadtPalais Stuttgart. The museum deals with the city and its urban culture. Questions about the future, architecture and sustainability play a major role. In addition: In summer and winter, StadtPalais Stuttgart invites visitors to "Stuttgart by the Sea" and "Stuttgart in the Snow". These event formats stimulate discussions to help shape a sustainable and liveable city life.

Stuttgart funicular

A ride on the Stuttgart funicular is always a special experience because the vehicles and installations are still in their original condition from the 1920s! Within four minutes, the historic teakwood cars, which are operated according to the weight-balancing principle, take you from the hustle and bustle of the big city to the idyllic natural surroundings and vice versa.

Grüne U

Stuttgart can also be green: no matter what time of year, in the Grüne U you have the opportunity to take nice relaxing walks and unwind in the middle of the city - from the Schlossgarten to the Höhenpark Killesberg!

Cogwheel railway "Zacke"

In addition to the funicular railway, Stuttgart also has a cogwheel railway - affectionately known as the "Zacke". This has been overcoming an extreme gradient of up to 18.8 per cent since 1884! Today, Stuttgart's rack railway is one of the last four of its kind in Germany. A ride from Marienplatz to Degerloch is definitely worth it, as the route offers breathtaking panoramic views of the valley basin.

Municipal Lapidarium

The Municipal Lapidarium is an open-air museum in the garden of a former villa. More than 200 mostly stone testimonies from five centuries show the building and cultural history of Stuttgart. Please note: The Lapidarium is only accessible during the warm season. It is closed in autumn and winter.

Every year in the run-up to Christmas, an alternative winter village takes place on Marienplatz. Here you can find a large selection of handmade individual Christmas gifts. Apart from that, you also have the opportunity to make dream catchers and upcycling gifts!
